George R.R. Martin was there...yes really!

Alright just back from two days at Octocon in Dublin and my head is still reeling.

George R.R. Martin was there, yes really. And I got to sit on a panel with him discussing how to bring your work to the screen, I have pictures to prove it too. Of course, George has a tad more experience than me. It was amazing to listen to him go over his experiences in TV, film and the upcoming HBO series. He was well attended by his renowned Brotherhood without Banners and we even had some of the cast come down from Belfast to fill us in on what the series will be like. It doesn’t get much better.

Michael Carroll was there too and his latest book is just out, Superhuman. Be sure to pick up a copy. Peadar Ó Guilín was also in attendance with big news of his follow up to ‘The Inferior’. It’s coming out in May so all those still holding their breath can finally relax. I finally got to meet Wayne Simmons. We have been conversing virtually for years now but finally got to look him in the eyes. He was there with ‘Flu’. No, he wasn’t sick – Flu is the title of his zombie apocalyptic novel and well worth picking up it is too.

Also there were Sarah Rees Brennan, CE Murphy with the youngest fan I have ever seen - congratulations Catie! John (Star Fleet is evil) Vaughan - I have to mention him by name or he won’t talk to me again and a host of others far too numerous to mention.

I have to thank to hard-working organisers, Cat, Gareth, Finn, Danielle and everyone else who were just brilliant. Thank you all for a great weekend.

It was great to see you there, Derek, although, as usual, precious little time for a relaxing chat!
