Writing from a vampire's point of view...

I am really excited about the forthcoming VAMPIRE APOCALYPSE Graphic Novel. I am a lifelong fan of comics so, seeing my own work adapted to a graphic form, is really cool. I am writing a few interludes for the Graphic Novel that dip into the history of the vampires and they are coming along really well. These will be totally new and unpublished in any other format and interestingly, they are written in the form of diary entries of vampires throughout the ages. This was the publishers idea and the plan is to have around 4 of these interludes as part of the graphic novel. Each will run to a couple of pages. I've two completed and submitted so far and working on the third.

International Thriller Writers Association

I'm a contributing editor for The International Thriller Writers Association and have the pleasure of writing about new releases and interviewing authors. Here's an excerpt of what I wrote about the debut thriller from Mark Greaney for the March issue of their online newsletter - The Big Thrill...

The Gray Man by Mark Greaney
By Derek Gunn

'The Gray Man - This debut thriller takes readers on a lightning-paced international chase where the hunter becomes the hunted. American operative Court Gentry, dubbed the Gray Man for his legendary skill as a shadowy killer for hire, races against time and battles teams of government assassins as he crisscrosses Europe to save one imprisoned family--- knowing innocent lives hinge upon his success as a cold-blooded killer. The Gray Man promises raw-edged suspense at every turn.' READ FULL ARTICLE

Just contemplating what story to write next - a new VAMPIRE APOCALYPSE book, a sequel to THE ESTUARY or something entirely different...

Many thanks to Eric Mullarky of New Baby Productions for sending me this!

And - don't forget the CONTEST is still running until the end of March! Here's the details again -

I've just received advance copies of the three chapbook set titled SENTINELS OF THE SEA. It will be coming out shortly from Ghostwriter Publications in the UK and will be availble to purchase only at their website. Meanwhile...I've got a few sets to give away!

As you may be aware, My book, THE ESTUARY (Permuted Press 2009) is now available across the US in Borders and Waldenbooks stores. Now this is very exciting for me. But the problem is that I don't get to enjoy that self-satisfied feeling of walking into a book store and seeing my book on the shelves! A few really nice folk in the US have been kind enough to send me photos of THE ESTUARY in their local Borders. So I've decided that anyone who snaps a photo for me and sends it, or a link to it, will be entered into a draw for a free set of three chapbooks in a slipcase. Of course, those who have already sent me photos are entered.

Just send me a photo (and tell me the location of the store) via email (derekg@iol.ie) or via Facebook. I'll leave it open until the end of the month and then draw the winners.

Here's some info to whet your appetite -

SENTINELS OF THE SEA is a new historical horror fiction book incorporating three stories that follow the adventures of Captain Thomas Butler and his crew aboard the HMS Swift.

Described by the publisher as “The style of Alexander Kent meets the dark world...” the stories are set against the historical backdrop of the fragile peace that existed between the American Revolution, the looming French Revolution and the threat of Napoleon's growing empire. Join the crew of the HMS Swift as they face the walking dead in "The Diabolical Plan" and vampires in "The Island".

THE ESTUARY in Borders, Texas!

Fellow author Rhiannon Frater very kindly took some photos of THE ESTUARY on the shelf of her local Borders at the Domain in Austin, TX and emailed them to me today. I'm sure by now readers will know that THE ESTUARY is published by a US publisher and is available through Borders and Waldenbooksin the US. But, as I live on the other side of the Atlantic, I have to rely on the kindness of people to send me photos - it would be a bit of a trip for me to pop along to a Borders:-). I also hear copies have been spotted in Borders stores in Wisconsin and Ohio. Any other sightings, I'd love to hear about them!

THE ESTUARY in Borders and Waldenbooks

If you see a copy of THE ESTUARY in a Borders or Waldenbooks near you could you be so kind as to let me know here! I know that the books are gone out to these stores but as I'm on the other side of the Atlantic, I won't get to see them in store. Many thanks for indulging me :-)

"EMPIRE is one hell of a post-apocalyptic joy ride."--Skull Ring

This is a book I'd recommend for fans of Post-apocalyptic Zombie fiction!

It's available now to preorder on Amazon and will hit the book shelves on March 16th.

Here's the book description:

The year is 2112.
The crippled U.S. government and its military forces are giving up the century-long fight against an undead plague. Born of an otherworldly energy fused with a deadly virus, the ravaging hordes of zombified humans and a nimals have no natural enemies. But they do have one supernatural enemy: Death himself.

Descending upon the ghost town of Jefferson Harbor, Louisiana, the Grim Reaper embarks on a bloody campaign to put down the legions that have defied his touch for so long. He will find allies in the city’s last survivors, and a nemesis in a man who wants to harness the force driving the zombies—a man who seeks to rebuild America into an empire of the dead.
